Values of City on a Hill Church

Live Biblically

We believe the word of God is life-changing and absolutely necessary for growth as follower of Jesus. We aspire to learn and live by what is says.

Hebrews 4:12

12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Love Radically

Jesus showed radical love for us when He laid down his life for ours. We want to respond to that act by intentionally looking for ways to love our neighbors as ourselves.

John 15:12-13

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Serve Graciously

We believe we’re at our best when we’re serving others. With that in mind we intend to joyfully serve the church and the community around us.

Galatians 5:13

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

Give Generously

Generosity is one of the marks that we’re being transformed by God. We believe giving is an opportunity not an obligation and God by nature is a giver. When we give of our time, treasure, and talent we reflect our creator.

2 Corinthians 9:11

New International Version

11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Pray Fervently

We believe that nothing great in the kingdom of God takes place without fervent prayer

James 5:16

New International Version

16  Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

We Believe

The Bible is God’s inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the source of truth for Christian beliefs. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error.2 Timothy 3:16, 1:13; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Psalm 119:105, 160, 12:6; Proverbs 30:5

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is coequal with the Father and Holy Spirit. Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will return again someday to earth to reign as King.
The Holy Spirit is coequal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer spiritual gifts when they are saved. As Christians we seek to live under His control daily. We believe in the post-salvation experience of Spirit Baptism. We believe the church should operate in the fullness of the Spirit as the first century church did in the book of Acts.

We believe in the salvation through Jesus Christ and repentance of sin as the only means of receiving eternal life. The new birth involves a cleansing and deliverance from the penalty and power of sin. (John 3:3,5,7; Ephesians 2:8,9; 1 Peter 1:18-20).

In sanctification, after salvation, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost. The growth involves daily dying to sin.
We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as an enduement of power for all believers (Acts 2:4,38-39; 10:44-46; 19:1-6; Ephesians 5:18). This baptism results in a deeper expression of spiritual fruit (Galatians 5:22,23), a greater growth in Christ-likeness (2 Corinthians 3:18), a genuine manifestation of spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:1-11), and a more effective prayer In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.  In the Lord’s Supper and washing of the saints’ feet.

In the pre millennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.

In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.
